2002 World Championship and Convention

The announcement of the 2002 Inaugural World Championship and Fastpitch Convention has caused a huge excitement in the softball community. Literally hundreds of coaches, teams, and manufacturers have contacted the promoters. In case you missed it, the Girl's World Fastpitch Championship will be held in Las Vegas in December of 2002.

Those teams eligible to play in the World Championship will be the top 10 finishers in each age group from all of the national governing bodies' tournaments. In addition, there will be 4 qualifying tournaments held in different regions of the country. Two of the qualifying tournaments are already set, one in Maryland and one in the beautiful mountains of Colorado sometime in June of 2002.

The convention will consist of booths from bat and ball manufacturers, glove companies, specialty softball training devices, coaching and training videos, softball software companies, uniforms, pins and tee shirt companies. They are already signing up some of the largest tournaments in girl's Fastpitch softball. You will be able to talk to the people who run these tournaments and sign up on the spot.

There will be pitching clinics and coaching seminars. You will be able to talk with experts on team travel and find out how to make those hard earned dollars go as far as possible. You will find new ideas for fundraising as well.

The Annual Las Vegas Christmas Break Tournament will be held at the same time so even if your team does not qualify for the World Championship you can still come to Las Vegas for the convention and still play softball.

If you are interested in coming to one of the tournaments and the convention or if you are interested in having a booth at the convention contact Carl Clifton at cobra@qwest.net . As usual, we are already putting into place large group travel from all over the United States at unbelievably affordable prices. We will have major hotels on the strip for less than $40 per night.

New in Hawaii

We have just aligned our selves with a new tournament in Hawaii. We will be helping softball in Paradise with their tournament in July. This tournament was until recently working with world sports out of North Carolina, but has severed that tie. They have asked us to help them bring teams to their Oahu tournament in 2002. In addition to Softball they do Baseball in Paradise, Basketball in Paradise, and next year soccer in Paradise. We will be assisting them in these endeavors. Lola at softballtravel.com will be putting together her usual great deals to all of these functions. You will see more information in later newsletters and we will soon start a newsletter for baseball, basketball and soccer. Of course we will continue to work with the ASA tournament in Hawaii as always, this will be in addition.

How to get an Athletic Scholarship

A parents guide

After having 2 daughters receive division 1 athletic scholarships in softball I have gone "through the trenches" in dealing with colleges.

Through my 8 yrs. of experience I've learned the "do's" and the "don'ts .Probably like you, I have spent hundreds of dollars over the years in private lessons, hi tech equipment, summer teams , fall teams ,motels etc. and unless your athlete is "PRESENTED" correctly to colleges they maybe overlooked despite their ability.

If you are interested in obtaining my 12-page guide for parents please mail

$29.00 to Jim Muglia, 37 Crescent Dr. Fairfield, NJ 07004. Or if you have questions please email me at jdm2277@webexpert.net
